What Is in VitalPaws Pre+Probiotic, and Does It Contain Chicken?

Short answer: yes, it contains chicken. VitalPaws Pre+Probiotic (the 120g pouch) is built on real freeze-dried chicken liver — actual liver in the powder, not a chicken flavouring — alongside 4 billion CFU of good bacteria per scoop, inulin (the prebiotic fibre we call "gut fuel"), haldi (turmeric) with black pepper extract, and coconut oil. There is no vegetarian version. If your vet has told you to avoid chicken, or your dog has a confirmed chicken allergy, ask your vet before starting — don't start on your own.

What goes into the 120g pouch

If you're reading this, you've probably been burned by a label before: a "natural flavour" you couldn't picture, a "proprietary blend" that hid the amounts, a chicken flavouring that had never met a chicken. Or your vet has drawn a line under chicken and you now read every packet in the house. Either way, here is what is in Vital Paws Pre + Probiotics Powder, in plain words, and where each part comes from.

Ingredient What it is, and why it's there Animal or plant?
Good bacteria (the probiotic) 4 billion CFU per scoop — the live cultures that settle the gut. This is the "pro" in Pre+Probiotic. Live cultures (not chicken)
Inulin ("gut fuel") A prebiotic fibre — the food those good bacteria feed on. This is the "pre". Plant
Haldi (turmeric) + black pepper extract The same haldi as in your kitchen. Haldi barely absorbs on its own, so the black pepper extract is there to help the body take it up. Plant
Coconut oil Exactly what it says. We won't dress it up with a claim we can't back. Plant
Real freeze-dried chicken liver The flavour base — actual liver, not a flavouring. It is the reason the taste works. Chicken

Each scoop is the 8 g measuring scoop that comes in the pack; one 120g pouch holds 15 of them. On the pack, the four things it is for: supports digestion, improves coat shine, reduces bad breath, enhances energy. Vet formulated, made in an ISO 22000 facility, for all breeds and ages.

Yes, it has real chicken in it — and what that means for your dog

The taste comes from real freeze-dried chicken liver, in the powder itself. It is not a chicken flavouring sprayed onto a base. If you have read or been told anywhere that it is "chicken flavour only", take this page as the correction: it is liver.

We use liver on purpose. A dog can smell and taste actual liver, which is why most dogs lick the bowl clean and why the routine is "mix it into breakfast" rather than "hide a tablet in cheese". Not all dogs, though. On our follow-up calls (72 households with a usage update, mid-August to mid-September 2026, notes read by hand), 13 said their dog was fussy about the powder, and 10 of those stopped because of it — about 1 in 7. We publish that number because you should have it before you buy, not after.

But the same fact cuts the other way. If chicken is a problem for your dog, this powder is chicken. Three situations come up again and again in our customer messages, and here is the honest answer to each.

If your vet has told you to avoid chicken

Don't start it on your own. Ask your vet first, tell them exactly what the base is — freeze-dried chicken liver, not a flavouring — and let them decide. If the answer is no, this isn't the product for your dog, and we would rather say that plainly than sell you a pouch that sits in the cupboard. If the answer is yes, every order also comes with a 1:1 vet teleconsult; use it to put the chicken history on record before Day 1.

If your dog is on a hypoallergenic or elimination diet

The whole point of that diet is that nothing goes into the bowl except what your vet has cleared — usually one protein your dog has never eaten before. This powder brings chicken into the bowl, so it would break the rule, and the trial would stop telling you anything. Ask the vet who is running the diet. If they say wait until the trial is finished, wait; the gut will still be there afterwards.

Is there a vegetarian version?

No. There is one recipe and one pack, and chicken liver is the base of it. We don't make a vegetarian or chicken-free version, and there is no other flavour. Because it is the flavour base, count it as a real chicken ingredient, not a trace.

Who it's for, and the one restriction that matters

The pack says it: for all breeds and ages. Puppies can start from 2 months. It is labelled a dog feed supplement — not a medicine, and not for human use — and it is made by Pure Paws Pvt Ltd in Hyderabad, dog people who have been building this since November 2024.

The one real dietary restriction is the one above: chicken. Everything else in the pouch is plant-based or live cultures. If you are unsure about any of it for your particular dog, the vet teleconsult that comes with every order is the place to ask.

How much of it your dog actually gets

  • Up to 10 kg (Shih Tzu, Pug): ½ scoop a day — a pouch lasts about 30 days.
  • 11–25 kg (Beagle, Indie): 1 scoop a day — about 15 days.
  • 26 kg and above (Golden, GSD): 2 scoops a day — about a week.

Half the dose for the first week, then the full dose. Once a day, mixed into the morning meal, ideally with a little wet food: dogs are least fussy at breakfast, wet food hides the powder, and giving it with food avoids stomach discomfort. Missed a day? Give it the next morning; never double up. The full guide is at how much to scoop, by weight →

What real customers say

From genuine reviews on the product page — the ones that talk about what it feels like to give, rather than the results:

★★★★★"Feels like a natural solution, not medicine."
★★★★★"I thought supplements are chemicals. But this feels different."
★★★★★"I like that it's easy to mix with food."

Individual results and timelines vary. 8 out of 10 dog parents notice visible improvement within 3–4 weeks of daily use.

Storing it, and the small print

Keep the pouch cool and dry, away from direct sunlight, and reseal it after every scoop. The same 120g pack is on amazon.in, or you can order it here: Vital Paws Pre + Probiotics Powder →
