No Change After the First Pack: Should I Keep Giving the Probiotic?
Short answer: keep going, but count the days first. One 120g pouch is 15 scoops: about 30 days for a dog up to 10 kg, about 15 days at 11–25 kg, about a week at 26 kg and above. 8 out of 10 dog parents notice visible improvement within 3–4 weeks of daily use, and the tummy settles before the skin does — scratching usually eases around Day 21–28, so a pouch that ran out on Day 7 or Day 15 was never going to show a skin change. Give the right dose for your dog's weight every morning until Day 30, then judge it: not visibly better, tell us and we refund 100% — no forms, no return shipping, keep the pack; ticks or a diagnosed infection are a vet's job first.
Why "the first pack" is not the same as 30 days
VitalPaws is dosed by weight and the pouch is the same 120g for every size, so how long "one pack" lasts depends on your dog.
| Your dog | Daily dose | One 120g pouch lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 10 kg (Shih Tzu, Pug) | ½ scoop | about 30 days |
| 11–25 kg (Beagle, Indie) | 1 scoop | about 15 days |
| 26 kg and above (Golden, German Shepherd) | 2 scoops | about a week |
A German Shepherd or a Golden on 2 scoops a day finished its first pouch in about a week — well before scratching usually eases. A Beagle or an Indie on 1 scoop reached roughly Day 15. "No change after the first pack" and "no change after 30 days" are very different sentences, and only one of them is a reason to stop.
Count the mornings, not the weeks
Count the mornings your dog actually got the scoop — Day 1 is the first scoop in breakfast, and missed days don't count (give it the next morning, never double up). The full chart is on the dose guide.
What changes first, and when
The mistake that makes parents stop early is looking only at the skin. The gut shows change before the coat does. The order our customers report:
- First 1–2 weeks: the tummy settles — firmer potty, less gas.
- Around Day 21–28: scratching and paw-licking start to ease.
- Day 30: the checkpoint — visibly better, or a 100% refund.
- After Day 30: the gut keeps improving. Chronic cases may need 60 days.
8 out of 10 dog parents notice visible improvement within 3–4 weeks of daily use. Before you count yourself among the other 2 in 10, check the potty, not the skin: firmer than on Day 1 and less gas means the gut is moving; the skin follows. Our Gut Reset guide's test: score the potty 1–5 each evening (3 holds its shape and is ideal), and photograph your dog from the same spot, in the same light, on Day 1 and Day 30.
Three checks before you decide anything
- Is the dose right for the weight? ½ scoop a day up to 10 kg, 1 scoop for 11–25 kg, 2 scoops for 26 kg and above. Weight overrides breed: a 12 kg "small" dog is on 1 scoop, not ½. A dog on half of what it needs for a month has not had a month.
- Is it going in every morning, with food? Once a day, in the morning meal, ideally with a little wet food. Daily consistency matters more than speed; skipped days don't count toward the 30.
- Has anything else changed? A new kibble, a new shampoo, a different park, tick season. The gut is one cause of itching, not the only one.
Every VitalPaws order includes check-ins on Day 3, 7, 14 and 21 and a WhatsApp line where a human answers (+91 80507 70671). "No change yet" is exactly what those calls are for — give the team the weight, the dose and the day count.
When it is not the gut
The honest part: a probiotic supports the gut. It does not kill ticks and it is not a medicine. Three things should send you to a vet first:
- Ticks or fleas. Part the coat at the neck, behind the ears, between the toes and around the tail base. If you find them, tick control comes first.
- A diagnosed infection. Red, weeping or smelly skin, a head-shaking ear, hair loss in patches — these need a vet, not a supplement. Keep the scoop going if your vet is fine with it, but don't wait on it.
- An itch that survives a full 30 days at the right dose. Itch that does not budge after a proper gut reset can mean parasites, an infection or something in the environment. That is a vet's job, which is why every VitalPaws purchase includes a 1:1 vet teleconsult with Dr. Anvesh Chakravarthy, B.V.Sc & A.H., PetPulse Clinic. Use it.
Day 30: reorder, or refund?
Thirty days is a floor, not a ceiling. It is also the day you decide with a refund in hand.
If something is visibly better
Even if it's only the potty so far, keep the dose going: the gut keeps improving after Day 30, which is why we run a 60-Day Rebuild and a longer program beyond it, and chronic cases — itchy for months, not weeks — may need 60 days before the skin catches up. Order 2 or 4 pouches together and a per-pouch discount applies automatically at checkout; for a dog above 10 kg that is also what it takes to reach Day 30 without a gap (two pouches for 11–25 kg, four for 26 kg and above).
If nothing is visibly better
Then you don't reorder, you tell us. Message the WhatsApp line, say your dog isn't visibly better by Day 30, and we refund 100% — no forms, no return shipping, keep the pack (full wording: return and refund policy). Take the vet teleconsult before you close the chapter: a real "no change" at Day 30 points away from the gut, toward the causes above.

FAQ
Should I stop the probiotic if there is no difference after 10 days?
No. Ten days is before change usually shows: the tummy settles first, in the first 1–2 weeks, and scratching eases around Day 21–28. 8 out of 10 dog parents notice visible improvement within 3–4 weeks of daily use, so judge it at Day 30.
How long should I give VitalPaws before deciding it isn't working?
30 straight days at the right dose for your dog's weight — ½ scoop up to 10 kg, 1 scoop for 11–25 kg, 2 scoops from 26 kg. If your dog isn't visibly better by Day 30, tell us and we refund 100%. Chronic cases may need 60 days.
The paw licking hasn't stopped and the pack is over. Should I reorder?
If your dog is above 10 kg, the pouch ran out before paw-licking usually eases (around Day 21–28): one 120g pouch is 15 scoops, about 15 days at 11–25 kg and about a week at 26 kg and above. Order enough to reach Day 30 without a gap (two pouches for 11–25 kg, four for 26 kg and above) and judge it then.
My dog is still itchy and red after a full month. What now?
Check for ticks or fleas and for signs of infection (red, weeping or smelly skin, a head-shaking ear); those need a vet, and every VitalPaws purchase includes a vet teleconsult. If there is no visible improvement by Day 30, take the 100% refund: no forms, no return shipping, keep the pack.
Finish the 30 days before you judge it. One scoop a day. 30-day guarantee.
